We are delighted to invite you to join us in celebrating the Olympic Spirit<\/strong> with two amazing Greek athletes participating in the New York City Marathon, Olympic Gold Medalist Athanasia Tsoumeleka<\/a> and Mary Liarou-Barbaris<\/a>! A special appearance by Greek soprano Anastasia Zannis<\/a>.<\/p>\n Master of Ceremonies Olga Bornozis<\/a>, Managing Director, Capital Link.<\/p>\n When:<\/strong> October 29th<\/sup> 2015, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wine and Hors d’oeuvres reception. This is a complimentary event, but RSVP is required as space is limited. The New York City Marathon is one of the largest, most well known and most prestigious marathon races in the world. It was established in 1970 where 127 runners participated. By 2010 the number of participants had climbed to 45.000! It attracts both amateurs and elite runners from all over the world. It is one of the most popular marathons in the world. The route takes the participants through the five boroughs of the city.<\/p>\n Athanasia Tsoumeleka is our Athens 2004 Gold Olympic Medalist, who participates at the NYC Marathon for the very first time for charity.<\/p>\n \u201cAthanasia\u201d in Greek means \u201cImmortality\u201d !!! This is the meaning and also the message she sends to us. She calls us to look inside us and search for the Eternal Principles our ancestors taught us \u2013 our Heritage. This Heritage, we must keep alive and use as a compass to our mission in life.<\/p>\n Her participation at the NYC Marathon 2015 signals and proves the consistency and continuity of the real Athletic Spirit which goes beyond stadiums and reaches every one of us.<\/p>\n Athanasia is \u201cGreece\u201d for the Greek diaspora. She invites us to remember that the Eternal Olympic Spirit lives within every Greek heart and to remember that the \u201cAthletic Spirit\u201d is a Great Notion \u2013 It is an Ideal \u2013 it is Life itself.<\/p>\n She runs NYC Marathon for Make A Wish Greece. Together with Mary Liarou-Barbaris, a 50-year old executive who run her very first race \u2013 a 5K ladies race \u2013 two years ago.
