A Summer Evening of Networking and Art: Tour the High Line Park, Network and Enjoy a Discussion of the Public Art Works with Dr. Aphrodite Navab
Please join us on a tour of the High Line Park and Art Works with Dr. Aphrodite Desiree Navab.
When: Friday August 5th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Gansevoort entrance to the High Line park, at the Northwest corner of Gansevoort Street and Washington Street
Dr. Aphrodite Désirée Navab, artist and writer, will give a tour for the friends of AGAPW of the public art works on the High Line park. The High Line was built in the 1930s, lifting freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains from the streets. No trains have run on the High Line since 1980. Friends of the High Line, a community-based non-profit group, formed in 1999 when the structure was under threat of demolition, have worked together with the City of New York to preserve and maintain the structure as a public park. It is located on Manhattan’s West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th & 11th Avenues. http://www.thehighline.org/ Friends of the High Line present a rotating schedule of temporary artworks in all mediums in and around the High Line. Now on view are works by Sarah Sze, Julianne Swartz, and Kim Beck.
Whether you’ve visited the High Line before or this would be your first time, this is a wonderful opportunity to get together for a summer evening of fun networking and art. Please join other friends of AGAPW and Dr. Navab for a tour and discussion of the public art, while enjoying delicious ice cream and refreshments sold on the High Line.
This is a free event. No RSVPs are required.
